Wood Furniture Care

To protect and care for your wood furniture, we suggest the following:

  • Avoid placing your furniture in direct sunlight, as sunlight can cause fading.
  • Clean up any spills immediately. Use a blotting rather than a wiping action. Water left over a long period of time will cause white spots in the finish.
  • Alcohol, perfume, after-shave and medications can cause severe finish   damage.

The original lacquer or oil finish is the best protection for your wood furniture, therefore it is not necessary to use a polishing product every time you dust.  Dusting frequently with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth is highly recommended. Wipe up spills immediately, clean the surface by rubbing in the direction of the grain. Also polishing your furniture approximately every six months is adequate, using a clean, soft, lint-free cloth and rubbing the polish in the direction of the grain.

For painted surfaces apply gentle pressure and take precaution when using a cleaning/polishing product, since some contain pine oil that can damage the surface.  Always test in a inconspicuous area for fading or damage first.

We recommend polishing products that are wax free and contain natural oils.  Guardsman® polishing and cleaning products are available for purchase at all our showrooms.
